As an extension of the lifestyle, health promotion, and health service goals of the 1974 Surgeon General`s Report on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, 15 major subareas of health were defined.
Health Education is the primary instrument for accomplishing these goals. Essentially all health education issues can be placed into or more of the following categories :
1. Personal health care
2. Nutrition ang growth
3. Body structure and function
4. Sex and family living
5. Safety and first aid
6. Prevention and conttrol of disease : a. Communicable, b. Chronic
7. Community health
8. Drug abuse and alcoholism
9. Smoking education
10. Mental health
11. Environmental health
12. Consumer health
13. Dental health
14. Occupational health/health careers
15. Death education
These categories are not in order of importance, nor are they considered as separete or unrelated areas of study; rather they are interdependent and interrelated to one another.(DeBiase et al. 1991)
